SEA MONSTERS! YVONNE DECARLO! MORE!

Monsters of the ocean's depths have been a subject of fear and fascination with seafarers for centuries. This article from CELEBRITY (Magnum Publications, Inc., January 1955) offers a look at some "real live" sea monsters (and one famous fake).

EXTRAS!

Included in the same issue of CELEBRITY are these photo-features:

The first is "What Every Man Should Know About Love" written by the famous burlesque dancer and self-avowed nudist, Evelyn West. Pay attention, gents! Miss West is going to let you in on how men should properly act to land their sweetheart.

Next up is "Why Hollywood's Sexiest Siren Chases Men Away" and explains why Yvonne "Lily Munster" DeCarlo was such a tough catch.

Last, but definitely not least is another feature on a famous burlesque dancer (really the only go-to subjects for "tasteful" cheesecake at the time). Lilly Christine, aka “The Cat Girl”, belly-danced her way to top in the 1940's, headlining New Orleans' 500 Club owned by Leon Prima, Louis' brother, and even had a stint on Broadway. In this pictorial, she struts her stuff in her new "Little Egypt" dance.

Here's Lilly Christine at Prima's 500 Club doing her "Cat Dance", so-named because of her lithe and slinky moves. Notice the cat claws on her fingers.

This postcard shows Leon Prima's 500 Club during its heyday in New Orleans. Lilly Christine is the obvious headliner.
