Earl Norem (b. April 17, 1923, d. June 19, 2015) was a prolific illustrator of pulp magazines. He worked on projects into his 90's, and passed away in the midst of supplying the artwork for a series of the return of the MARS ATTACKS trading cards. Most noted for his work in Martin Goodman's men's adventure magazines, Norem also contributed heavily to the Marvel comic magazine line, especially THE SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN.

This gallery of original art shows Norem's dynamic approach to illustration, which is a key element to portraying heroic characters such as Robert E. Howard's Conan. In some of them you can see examples of the grid style that he used to balance the image. He preferred to work in acrylics, but also did numerous images in gouache as well.
