PSYCHO ANNUAL NO. 1 1972 (PART 1)
No. 1 1972
Editor: Alan Hewetson
Publisher: Israel Waldman
Cover art: Albert Pujolar
The Skywald line of illustrated black and white horror magazines were the closest things to call competition to Warren's hugely successful CREEPY, EERIE, and VAMPIRELLA.
Editor Alan Hewetson was a hardcore monster fan and proved it in every issue of publisher Israel Waldman's NIGHTMARE and PSYCHO. The text that introduced and accompanied the stories was an insanely creative mélange of creepiness. With lines like, "What awaits within to slither and slime inside", and "Enter this place that is now horror, breathing, breading (sic), horribly seething, hideously waiting, crawling and creeping ... within this house of haunting horrors", Hewetson gave even Lovecraft a run for the money.
This is the PSYCHO ANNUAL #1 published in 1972. It contains a collection of stories that well represent the sort of fare served up by Hewetson and Skywald.
