While the rest of the world was either wrapped up in flowers and bell-bottoms or going to hell, monster magazines were flourishing. Kids (and I suspect a good number of adults, too) needed an escape from the horrors of real life (Tiny Tim excepted). Aside from his flagship magazine, CRACKED, publisher Robert Sproul served up a nice dish of monster humor that took the edge out of our angst.

Loved as an entertaining alternative to "serious" monster magazines or hated as a cheap interloper that was beneath even Charlton titles, FMO was actually pretty funny at times. They even threw down the gauntlet to Warren and published an illustrated horror story drawn by comic surrealist, Jerry Grandenetti.

Included in this issue are actual articles, too. CASTLE OF FRANKENSTEIN alumnus Richard Bojarski contributes two pieces: "The Life Story of Lionel Atwill", and "John Carradine, The Master Villain". Otto Binder and Jerry Grandenetti give us "Frankenstein '68" from "The Secret Files of Marc Vangoro", a two-toned tale of gothic terror. FOR MONSTERS ONLY is worth another look, Monster Kids.
