THIS ONE'S A THRILLER, TOO!

Taking a cue from Boris Karloff's intro from his horror/suspense TV show, I present this nicely done fanzine from 1972 published by Jerry Weddle out of New York. Behind the cover by Bill Nelson you'll find a retrospective of Terrence Fisher's Hammer horror films and features on rare fantasy movies, 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, and "Gone, But Not Forgotton", a guest editorial by Robert Bloch.

RARE MOON MONSTER POSTER

Up for auction is this rarity from the pages of comic book advertising. It's unlikely that anyone reading comics in the early 1970's didn't come across the ad to join "The Monster Club". For a mere buck you got quite a bit of stuff including photos, masks and this poster.

What struck me as odd is that there is an obvious difference between this poster and the one from earlier years. Perhaps they sold out of the first one and upgraded it. Any ideas?

Old and new posters side-by-side.

The poster is estimated to bring in $1,000-$2,000.

GORGO RETURNS FROM THE DEEP!

I don't know about you but Gorgo is one of my favorite giant monster movies. Like Godzilla, Gorgo is a product of "suitmation" and great care was taken to "animate" both mother and baby Gorgo by building the sets to exacting scale for more realism. Named after the Greek gorgon Medusa, Gorgo was first slated to be set in Japan, then France, then Australia and finally the production execs settled on England. It got pasted in the UK press when it was released, but who listens to critics anyway!

If I had an extra coupla hundred bucks I'd probably spring for this. It would make a nice desktop conversation piece, don't you think?
