A lot of monsters here for a buck-twenty-five. MONSTER WORLD was the first title launched by artist Tony Tallarico and Mayfair Publications. MONSTER FANTASY was the second, its first issue being published in April 1975 and lasted for four issues. Called the "Charlton of the 70's" by monster mag historian Mike Scott, the Mayfair 'zines, despite the publisher's reference to the "high class" associated with the name, were printed cheaply and had the same rough charm as Charlton's own monster magazines from a decade before.

The cover burst announces a 96-page issue, but 4 more pages were added somewhere during the production. The contents are a mixed bag, with articles on Dracula, Frankenstein and The Mummy. A feature titled, "Nightmare Theater" covers a number of European horror films starring Paul Naschy and others. Included is a comic story written by Tallarico and drawn by Argentinian Jose Delbo, who did work for Marvel and DC on titles such as THE TRANSFORMERS, WONDER WOMAN, ACTION and THE WITCHING HOUR, and Gold Key titles such as THE TWILIGHT ZONE and BORIS KARLOFF TALES OF MYSTERY.

  1. RE: Jose Delbo's "Common Dandruff" comic -
Delbo drew the Monkees' comic book series for Dell, and the Monkees portrayed dandruff flakes in their feature film, Head. How's that for a coinkydink?
