  1. I'm a big White Zombie fan. I'd heard of Dracula before I saw it and likewise Frankenstein. But when I stumbled across a muddy VHS of White Zombie many years ago it was a complete surprise. The quiet of those earliest efforts can be eerie and no more so than in this oddball effort.

  2. I think Lugosi does quite an admirable job in this film, and although a bit outdated, it has many thrilling moments and is drenched in the supernatural atmosphere of the tropics. It was based on William Seabrook's 1929 book. The Magic Island, which was very popular during this time as it was the first non-fiction book-length account on the religion and practice of Voodoo. Gary Don Rhodes wrote a fascinating account of film back in 2001.
