VAMPIRELLA NO. 7 (PART 1)

VAMPIRELLA
Vol. 1 No. 7
June 1969
Warren Publishing Company
Editor and Publisher: James Warren
Associate Editor: Archie Goodwin
Contributing Editor: Bill Parente; Nicola Cuti
Cover: Frank Frazetta
Pages: 68
Cover price: 50 cents

In this issue, the one-page feature, "Vampi's Feary Tales" is preempted by Warren's "Letter to the President and Members of Congress" editorial rant about free speech and current social issues. This was mainly in response to his anti-war magazine, BLAZING COMBAT (see issues HERE) being banned from sale in military PX's and probable interference by hawkish distributors and news agents. Ah, the 1960's . . .

The highlight(s) of the issue are the three tales concerning different types of witches. Penned by Nicola Cuti and book-ended with an intro (with the creators portraits drawn by Billy Graham) and outro, it contained excellent art by Tom Sutton, Ernie Colón and Graham (with dead-ringers for Jim Brown and Barbara McNair as characters). Also, some of Frank Bolle's better work is shown in "Plague of the Wolf". Warren and Goodwin seemed to always bring out the best in their staff!
