THE GEEK WITH THE POWER! (PART 1)

DC Comics was known for some bizarre characters over the years (THE ANGEL AND THE APE come immediately to mind), but perhaps no other was stranger than BROTHER POWER, THE GEEK.

Created, written and drawn by Joe Simon (Jack Kirby's partner during the Golden Age of Comics), it tells the tale of a mannequin that is brought back to life by lightning and wanders as an outcast among "normal" people (Frankenstein come to mind?). Turns out he was too weird even for the folks at DC and the title lasted for only two issues.

This is the first issue, dated Sept-Oct 1968.

Come back tomorrow for issue #2.

  2. Brother Power the Geek is a demented comic from a very specific time, but still and all I wish it was as dark as the cover and the ads suggested. I only ever saw the ads at the time and imagined all manner of bizarre things. When I finally got read it, I was a bit bemused by his somewhat innocent aspect. I do though rather like the weirdness that Joe Simon and his partner Jerry Grandenetti brought to DC at this time.
