The magazine, HEAVY METAL, is well known -- especially in its earlier days -- for cutting edge fantasy and science fiction stories and illustration. The staff were quite self-aware that they had a good thing going and were confident enough to publish an entire issue of cover art in 2002, their twenty-fifth year of publishing. Compiled by editor and artist John Workman, it is a rather spectacular tribute to the fine art of fantasy and representative of a very influential contribution to the genre.
