CLOSEUP NO. 1

In the 1970's, stop motion animation was enjoying popularity as one of the go-to methods for creating fantastic monsters while film technology was catching up to the time-honored art. One of these movies was Ray Harryhausen's THE GOLDEN VOYAGE OF SINBAD (1973). I discussed my personal experience with this wonderful movie on this post.

This fanzine, published in 1975, was serious business with the editor and contributors, as they were all dedicated followers of stop-motion animation. There is even an article by the future special effects and makeup maven, Craig Reardon. I found my copy at one of the bookshops that dotted Hollywood Blvd. at one time.

The featured article is on THE GOLDEN VOYAGE OF SINBAD, and takes up most of the issue with a wealth of photos, drawings and text. Other coverage is on the sex-romp, FLESH GORDON, and Sid and Marty Kroftt's TV show, LAND OF THE LOST.
