Vol. 1 No. 87
April-May 1961
National Comics Publications, Inc. (DC Comics)
Editor: Robert Kanigher
Cover: Russ Heath
Pages: 36
Cover price: 10 cents

This issue of G.I. Combat has the first appearance of the unique war series THE HAUNTED TANK. Written by Robert Kanigher and illustrated by Russ Heath, it tells the tale of a light tank crew fighting the heavier German tanks. The tank commander, Jeb Stuart is guided to victory by the ghost of his namesake, Civil War Confederate General, J.E.B. Stuart. The book shows it's historical non-PC content with the main character idolizing the Confederacy and, in another story, the Japanese are referred to as "Japs". If you can get past all that, this is a pretty good war comic.
