CHOICE CUTS: FAMOUS MONSTERS NO. 56 (PART 1)

Okay, folks, back to the monsters. We will crawl to the surface from the underground, but we're not quite done with the 1960's yet.

It wasn't all politics and protest. Another significant event that occurred at the end of the decade was the passing of Boris Karloff (2-Feb-1969), the last of the major horror actors from the classic Universal monsters era of the 1930's.

Today's Choice Cut is the 56th issue of FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND (July 1969). This is a special issue dedicated to Karloff's memory. Starting off with a knock-out cover by Basil Gogos, it contains both reprints and new material and includes tributes by fellow actors, authors and other personalities. A FRANKENSTEIN (1931) filmbook begins with the first of 3 parts and there is the usual copious photos to accompany all the articles. Also notable is the return of "The Graveyard Examiner", which hadn't been included in FM since issue #24.

When you compare today's material with last week's, it's hard to imagine that both were concurrent with each other.
