FJA, THE ORIGINAL MONSTER KID (PART 1)

I came across this in my files the other day, and I can't remember where I got it from. A quick look-up tells me that it was an ebook by one, Alan White, and it appears to have been published after Forry's passing. It is a collection of remembrances from a magazine called DELINEATOR.

Forry had a heckuva lot of fans and this is a compilation of just a few of them worth sharing.

  1. I envy those who visited the "Ackermansion" but I have made it a point to try and collect his cameos in the various monster and sci-fi movies over the decades. His filmography is quite large. His Famous Monsters magazine was not formative for me, as it was for so many, but I did enjoy his punny writing. Love a good pun!

  2. I was a fanatical Monster Kid and my visit to the Ackermansion was like the walking through the Sistine Chapel. And then the spy craze came . . .

  3. Never visited the Ackermuseum. I did get the chance to chat with Uncle Forry on the phone around '78 - something I'll never forget. My introduction to FMOF was in '64 at the age of 6 or 7 when a 1st grade classmate had a copy of #29 laying on his desk. Again in '64 a cousin showed me his copy of #30. In '65 another cousin had issue #33. In '68 my mother bought me my very own copy of issue #50. In '69 my Aunt bought me a copy of the 1970 Fearbook. My other cousin had issues #59, 60, 62, 64, 68 & 83. I didn't start seriously collecting them until issue #85 (Escape from the Planet of the Apes) then I bought all of the back issues. Great memories.

  4. Great memories, indeed. My first FM was #31. My Dad finally let me buy one off a local newsstand one glorious morning. I remember him saying, "Just don't let your Mom catch you with it"!
