CHOICE CUTS: FAMOUS MONSTERS NO. 43 (PART 1)

FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND
No. 43
March 1967
Warren Publishing Co.
Editor-in-Chief: Forrest J Ackerman
Founder and Publisher: James Warren
Managing Editor: Richard Conway
Way Out Layout: Harry Chester
Cover: Ron Cobb
Pages: 86
Cover price: 50 cents

Another of several covers by political underground cartoonist Ron Cobb. This one has the unique distinction of being the only cover of FM without any text on it except for the logo, date and price. Included in this issue are two filmbooks on HOUSE OF DRACULA and JOURNEY TO THE 7TH PLANET.

  1. As I scroll through this gem, it occurs to me that facsimile issues of Famous Monsters of Filmland would be amazing and big sellers too I'd reckon. Or reprint collections of the issues too. I'm currently gathering up the reprints of Creepy and Eerie and loving them.

  2. Interesting to note that this classic cover was repeated for Creepy #47 (dated Sept '72) with Sanjulian listed as cover artist.

  3. Rip: High quality reprints would be very nice, indeed. The current scans that are available vary greatly in that dept.

Preceptor: Sanjulian got his cover art in too late for the issue and they substituted it for Cobb's. His artwork was used later on the cover of EERIE #123.
