Roger Corman is well-known for his cycle of films adapting stories by Edgar Allan Poe. One of his films, TWICE TOLD TALES, is sometimes mistaken for one of them. In truth, it is a portmanteau of stories written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, one of our earlier classic authors and probably best known for his novel, "The Scarlet Letter". His specialty is described as "dark romanticism" which sometimes crosses over into the weird and the supernatural.

This Dell Movie Classic was published not long after the release of Corman's film. The stories include  "Rappaccini's Daughter", "Dr. Heidegger's Experiment" and "The House of Seven Gables".
