JACK DAVIS' MONSTER "TATOO" ORIGINAL ART
"Jack, draw some real whacked up characters as only Jack Davis can" -- so came the instructions from the TOPPS company to the ex-EC Comics cartoonist.
Now, for all you fans of "ink", here is a selection of original art that the late, great Jack Davis produced for the 1962 TOPPS/Bazooka Gum series, Monster "Tatoo". The original "certified food color"-made transfers were in color and are now considered highly collectible since they are difficult to find in good condition (it was discovered that any kind of moisture would cause the color to smear and run, and part of the image would pull off of the tattoo that was next to the stick of gum). Original examples of this set sell on eBay for around $45.00. These originals were auctioned off back in 2007 for about $200 apiece.
