With the exception of a copyright notice, this issue of CoF is strangely devoid of any editorial indicia typically found on the "Scroll of Thoth" contents page. Maybe editor Beck took to heart the subtitle of his magazine: "A Magazine Calculated to Blow Your Mind". Nevertheless, the usual melange of monsters, sci-fi and comics are present. Highlights are interviews with Ray Bradbury and Basil Rathbone, a discussion of 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, the making of PLANET OF THE APES, a pictorial of the then very hot commodity, Raquel Welch, and a feature on Jonathan Frid, sitting for his makeup and fangs before an episode of the then-running DARK SHADOWS.
Also included is an odd photo of John Cassavetes from ROSEMARY'S BABY that shows him in a makeup that supposedly ended up on the cutting room floor. The claim appears a bit spurious since the photograph is clearly heavily retouched. Did Beck take the bait from a prankster that sent him the photo? -- did Beck have it done himself? -- or is it genuine?
