Charlton monster 'zines are the equivalent of the one family on the block who had knee-deep weeds for a lawn and one or two junk cars rusting in the back yard. I have characterized them before as having a sort of "rough charm", especially to those of us who bought and pawed through them back in the day when they were first published.

Throughout their history (10 issues each, plus 2 one-shots), the one-two punch of MAD MONSTERS and HORROR MONSTERS maintained one over-sized foot in the tepid swamp of horror humor and the other in stories that were supplied with promotional photos from the latest release from AIP and others. Featured in this issue are: KING KONG vs. GODZILLA, I MARRIED A MONSTER FROM OUTER SPACE, CORRIDORS OF BLOOD, and THE DEADLY MANTIS. Included is a bio of Lionel Atwill.

With a team of creative artists such as those listed on the masthead, it's easy to see why Charlton's monster mags are classics!
