Marvel Comics did not turn their backs on monsters by any means. In the 70's, they created or re-introduced monster main comic book characters such as Werewolf By Night, Monster of Frankenstein, Man-Thing, Tomb of Dracula, Morbius the Vampire, The Living Mummy, and others. Then they pulled off a bit of the unexpected when they published their own monster movie 'zine.
Thus was born MONSTERS OF THE MOVIES, and it was a pretty good addition to the rest of the monster 'zines on the newsstand racks of the day. With help from FANTASTIC MONSTERS OF THE MOVIES alumnus Ron Haydock, teenage monster movie maker turned pro, Don Glut and Marvel top shelf writer Chris Claremont, MOM is a solid entry into the canon. Nicely designed by Marcia Gloster, this issue contains interviews with Boris Karloff and Robert "Count Yorga" Quarry, several articles on Frankenstein films, a review of Chris Lee in THE SATANIC RITES OF DRACULA, and a mix of different departments, news, and reviews.
Ahh, the days when magazines were only a buck!
