I don't know about you, but after the excitement earlier this week I'm ready to chill with a bit of humor.
CRACKED MONSTER PARY, a sort of half-brother to FOR MONSTERS ONLY, had a much longer run at 46 issues, lasting until the Spring of 2000. As with most humor magazines, the quality -- and the humor -- varied with each issue. In this 1995 example, the contents reflect contemporary material, such as satirizing the then popular BEAVIS AND BUTTHEAD among the remnants of vintage horror movies. The overall effect is awkward, but there is more than one laugh to be had here. It is ironic that one of the last gasps from the monster magazine golden era was one that poked fun at it. Fortunately, we still see some nice work by the venerable John Severin, who contributed material as early as the very first issue.
