WARREN PUBLISHING COVER PROOFS

In publishing parlance, and as shown in the subjects posted here, a "cover proof" is the very first copy of a magazine's cover to roll off the press before the final print job is run. Proofs are then sent to the magazine's editor where they are scrutinized to make sure there are no inaccuracies or other errors that might have been missed during production.

This process was especially important during the pre-digital printing age when paste-ups, screens, and Photostats were all integral to the anatomy of the final printed page.

Today, of course, proofs can be revised with a few clicks of a keyboard or mouse in any number of page publishing software programs.

Displayed here are numerous examples of Warren Publishing's cover proofs for various titles. They are in splendid condition for their age and are some of the very few specimens left that exemplify the disappearing art behind the printed page of our beloved vintage monster magazines.
