AMAZING FIGURE MODELER NO. 52
The cover promises "Gothic Frights and Sinister Delights and More Bloody Goodness From the Grave!", and the latest issue of AMAZING FIGURE MODELER does just that. Among the precious few titles that cover model kit making, AFM is just about the last one standing. With an emphasis on horror, sci-fi and fantasy, this 'zine is packed from cover-to-cover with clear, crisp, color photos depicting the latest in kits both plastic and resin. Even the ads are cool.
This issue focuses on vampires and covers step-by-step build-ups of the Dracula as Wolf Man figure from the Coppola version, a trio of zombies, a Christopher Lee as Dracula bust, a Dwight Frye as Renfield figure, a Harry Potter Dark Lord figure, and the MPC re-issue of the classic Barnabas Collins plastic kit.
Perhaps the most interesting article of a non-model making nature is an article by George Ganzer about his tour of the famous original PHANTOM OF THE OPERA Paris Opera House Stage at Universal Studios. It includes a number of color photos and leaves the reader with a sense of history from the golden era of horror.
Rounding out the issue is a profile of artist Jean-Louis Grinon and numerous reviews of both commercial and "garage" kits.
For model makers and artists, AMAZING FIGURE MODELER is an indispensable resource for tips, tricks, and ideas. For the non-model maker there is always enough material to make the subject interesting. Combining excellent photography and color reproduction and the guidance from of some of the hobby's most brilliant talent, AFM is a glue that will stick to your ribs.
AFM can usually be found at larger hobby shops and brick and mortar bookstores, as well as directly from the publisher. Just follow the link from the button on the sidebar.
