After 50 years, the Martians are invading again. Back in 1962, Topps released a series of bubble gum cards that quickly became a hit with the kids but notorious among their parents. The Parent Teachers Association went so far as to decry the excessive cruelty and gore that was visible on practically every card in the deck.
Joe Kane, editor of THE MONSTER TIMES (and lately the publisher of VIDEOSCOPE) remembered them in issue #36 from October 1974.
My first ever published art was a Boris Karloff Frankenstein portrait on the letters page of The Monster Times #10 when I was 12 years old! Loved that publication!
