THE MAD BOOK OF HORROR STORIES ORIGINAL ART

Look no further than MAD magazine for some of the best horror humor and monster parodies. They have amassed enough spoofs on spooks over the years to collect them in a hardback book (Horrifyingly Mad, 2011).

Numerous other collections and specials have dotted the landscape of horror hilarity by the "Usual Gang of Idiots" at MAD. Shown here is a trove of original art pages from the 1991 paperback, THE MAD BOOK OF HORROR STORIES: YECCHY CREATURES & OTHER NEAT STUFF. Written by Lou Silverstone and illustrated by Harry North, it's just one of many examples of how MAD can make you laugh... even in the face of monsters!

Those things that go "bump" in the night are here in abundance in The MAD Book of Horror Stories, Yecchy Creatures, & Other Neat Stuff. The 96 pages of North's original art are accompanied by a variety of production materials, including portions of author Lou Silverstone's typewritten manuscript and text-only paste-up layouts. Of the 96 pieces of original art, many of those pieces include two story pages of art on the same sheet. Evocative illustrations throughout, including spoofs of Dracula, The Amityville Horror, Jekyll & Hyde, and Edgar Allan Poe. An accompanying document signed by Silverstone cites his private collection as the source. Ink and ink wash over graphite on Bristol board. Image areas, 7" x 10" to 13" x 10". All text is paste-up, and some are coming loose and/or missing. Individual pages range from Very Good to Excellent condition.
