MONSTERS OF THE MOVIES NO. 1 (PART 1)

MONSTERS OF THE MOVIES
Vol. 1 No. 1
June 1974
Curtis Publications
Editor: Roy Thomas
Cover art: Luis Dominguez
Pages: 84

On the tail of the 11 regular issue (and one annual run) of MONSTERS UNLEASHED (1973-1975), Marvel Comics once again attempted to enter into the realm of monster magazine publishing in the mid-70s with MONSTERS OF THE MOVIES. A combination of serious articles about horror films, interviews, humorous features ripped right out of MONSTERS TO LAUGH WITH and MONSTERS UNLIMITED, and the inevitable comic story or two, MOM was done by some of the most talented writers and artists of the period, giving it a potential cloven hoof up on the competition.

The first issue's masthead was loaded with Marvel's top luminaries. Heading up the group was Roy Thomas. Marv Wolfman, Jim Harmon, Don Glut, Ron Haydock, Doug Moench, Chris Claremont and Tony Isabella all contributed their skills into what turned out to be an above average monster magazine.
