One of Boris Karloff's last films was Peter Bogdanovich's first as a director. Ready for release after the assassination of Robert Kennedy, it was forstalled when the movie industry took a rare brief pause to collectively consider the wisdom of violence on the screen. It was eventually released after the killing of Martin Luther King, Jr. (!). The reviewer concluded: "Seldom has a film been more ill-timed, more penalized by history."
