MACHETE MAIDENS UNLEASHED ON THE WORLD

Hacking and slashing their way across 70's screens, Filipino horror and action-adventure movies became the things of cinema legend. From movies starring the American rock n' roll idol John Ashley, to busty Angelique Pettyjohn, to the diminutive Weng Weng, to the black action heroine Pam Grier, the Phillipine movie industry was bursting at the seams with blood, bullets and buxom babes. Gory, gratuitous and gutsy, films with titles such as MAD DOCTOR OF BLOOD ISLAND, BRAIN OF BLOOD, THEY CALL HER CLEOPATRA WONG, NIGHT OF THE COBRA WOMAN, EBONY, IVORY & JADE -- do I dare go on? -- splashed their lurid visuals on the screen of many a' drive-in theater . . . and audiences ate 'em with spoon.

Now comes a new documentary film, MACHETE MAIDENS UNLEASHED that chronicles the history of this weird, but lucrative film industry. Packed with interviews with actors, actresses, director, and producers of the movies that they starred in and made, and backed with loads of clips to show what the hubub was all about, the film was premiered in New York last weekend and will be released on video this July 26.

Shown below is the press kit for MACHETE MAIDENS UNLEASHED. It's a lot of material, but it's fun to read and had me reaching for my wallet to purchase a copy.

To be continued . . .
